Hancock Shaker Village has a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces in which to host your wedding celebration. As the Shakers did when they inhabited this City of Peace, “we make you kindly welcome.”

Have your Hancock Shaker Village Wedding in the colorful gardens, cocktail reception in the iconic Round Stone Barn and dinner and dancing on the Gala Tent Deck, with panoramic views of the Village and the Berkshire Hills as a backdrop. Make a weekend of it by hosting your rehearsal dinner in the Dwelling dining room, and a lovely after-wedding brunch in the comfortable Community Hall.

Hancock Shaker Village is a former Shaker village in Hancock, Massachusetts that was established in 1791. It was the third of nineteen major Shaker villages established between 1783 and 1836 under the leadership of “Mother” Ann Lee and later Joseph Meacham and Lucy Wright.

The village was closed by the Shakers in 1960, and sold to a local group, who now operate the property as a museum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark District in 1968.

Holly & CalebSummer Wedding with Heirloom Fire Catering

Outdoor Summer Wedding in the Berkshires with Heirloom Fire

On a particularly beautiful day in late June, Holly, Caleb, and a crowd of their closest family and friends gathered at their family home in Tyringham for a unique and casual wedding. With the help of Jim Gop and Heirloom Fire Catering, a wedding event production company deep in the Berkshires Hills of Western Massachusetts, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony made special by the unique features of their family’s estate and Jim’s unique flair for wedding planning.

On the day of the ceremony, the family had a busy morning around the barn getting ready but were lucky enough to have friends and family helping out all week long. After the family got ready with hair and makeup, they gathered on the large open field and took family portraits together before heading back down to “the rock” to hide. Meanwhile, Jim Top and Heirloom Fire gathered materials for cooking from the nearby woods.

Caleb’s sister Mila blew the conch to signify the start of the wedding procession. As “Sound and Color” by Alabama Shakes blasted across the grounds, the family walked out across the field toward the ceremony spot on top of the hill. Once they arrived, they were greeted by a warm crowd of happy guests.

Instead of the traditional wedding party, Caleb and Holly opted to have their sisters officiate the wedding ceremony itself. During the short ceremony, Caleb and Holly exchanged vows before hugging their sisters close and returning to the house to sign the official marriage certificate. Once there, the newlywed couple made a map showing how each of the guests knew one another, but what wasn’t included on the map was the connectivity between the assembled friends and family, which created a palpable energy to the whole celebration.

Dinner was served outside on the field and accompanied by an exchange of beautifully heartfelt toasts from friends and family alike. After dinner, Holly and Caleb shared their first dance to Francis and the Lights’ “Friends” before the rest of the party joined them for a night of revelry, love, and togetherness. After the sun set, friends and family gathered once again around a giant fire where smores were made and enjoyed.

As Heirloom Fire Catering is known for its dedication to curating inspired, unique, and unforgettable events featuring fresh, local, and handcrafted foods in a farm-to-table setting, and because Holly and Caleb have friends who work at the company, there was no better option in the Berkshires to help this happy couple celebrate their special day. Known for their “Dinner Theatre” through a meal cooked directly over hardwood flame and perfectly executed service, Heirloom Fire worked closely with Holly and Caleb to help execute a truly memorable and exciting event.

Stonover Farm Wedding

Stonover Farm is truly a magical wedding setting. It is located in the Berkshire town of Lenox MA and is situated on 10 beautiful acres with a duck pond and surrounded by rolling hills. The hay barn can accommodate up to 200 for dinner and dancing and the field is large enough for any size tent. Ceremonies are usually held on the ramp leading up into the barn, with guest seating on the lawn. The lawn by the duck pond is perfect for a post-ceremony champagne or cocktail reception. Stonover Farm is one of the most sought after barn venues in the Berkshires, and I’m always excited to photograph there!

A little bit about the big day from Miriam:

Will and I have been to over 30 weddings together, and we really wanted to be comfortable and feel like ourselves on our wedding day. To help us do that, we decided to have one cocktail hour before the ceremony and a second one afterwards — this meant that by the time the reception arrived, we had already said hello to the vast majority of our guests. Also, being present at the first cocktail hour in my wedding dress removed some of the pressure and intensity of the ceremony. We decided not to have an aisle or a big entrance, and our guests sat at their dinner tables with drinks in hand for the ceremony — That really made the whole thing feel so intimate (even with 160 people). Our favorite moment of the day was right before our ceremony, when the entire barn cheered — it was surreal and we felt so loved!

We just wanted to the event to feel like us. Will really loves those 5-hour energy drinks, and so we had a whole bunch when people arrived. I don’t know if it was the energy or just our friends, but our tables were completely empty during the reception! We also had metal straws engraved with our wedding date as a nod to the environment. We started off with a pretty traditional Jewish ceremony, but we were really struggling with the seven blessings, since they didn’t speak to us and even the modern, adapted versions didn’t feel meaningful. Rabbi Hirsch worked with us to incorporate the themes of the seven blessings into our wedding vows. Alternating, we each read three blessings to each other, and our Rabbi read one at the end (the seventh) to both of us. We got so many comments from people about how meaningful they were. We also decided to each break a glass — why should men get all the fun?

James & AmandaWedding at Gedney Farm

James & Amanda’s Gedney Farm Wedding Photos

It was truly a pleasure to capture these wedding photographs on a perfect fall day in the Berkshires as James and Amanda exchanged vows up on the knoll at Gedney Farm under an ancient tree in New Marlborough, MA.

After months of planning, this New Orleans couple arrived early to Gedney Farm and spent the day laughing and getting ready for the guests of their Berkshires destination wedding. The weather and the farm were truly stunning, with fall bringing bright yellows and reds to the leaves on the trees around the estate.

When guests began to arrive, they were greeted in the courtyard with cider and yard games before being invited to take a 5-minute walk up the hill to the knoll where the ceremony took place.

Once the guests were at their seats, the Rosamund Trio played as the bridal party gracefully entered the ceremony site. Then, underneath a beautiful, old cherry tree at the top of the hill, James and Amanda exchanged vows in front of their friends and family.

“The ceremony was perfect and I know we will remember it fondly for the rest of our lives,” the bride said of the day’s events. “The chance to share our love and marriage with all those who we love was really like nothing else.”

After the ceremony, guests returned down the hill to the farm for a cocktail hour. The huge stone Argentine grill was fired up and ready to go to serve a fully catered meal courtesy of the folks at Gedney Farm.

Meanwhile, I got to snap a few quick photos of the wedding party at the top of the hill as they shared drinks from the staff. We were even able to get an awesome group shot, according to Amanda, of the whole wedding party before they headed down the hill.

The newlywed couple was announced as they entered the dining area, and they shared their first dance before settling in for a farm-to-table dinner and speeches from James and Amanda’s loved ones.

Dancing started right after dinner, and although the DJ got “a little out of hands at times,” according to the bride, guests could take a break from the dancing to have some fun in the photo booth downstairs.

Once the night wound down, popcorn was handed out and guests made their way home, rounding out a perfect wedding affair with some light snacks and jovial conversation.

The Mount Wedding Photos – Sam & Lisa’s Wedding at the Mount.

Exchange vows and mingle with loved ones against the backdrop of The Mount’s colorful, award-winning formal gardens and the elegant interior of Edith Wharton’s historic mansion. Spanning nearly 50 acres, the gracious, spectacular estate is the perfect setting for an unforgettable wedding.

What an AMAZING day! The flowers, the food, the venue, and the weather all contributed to Sam & Lisa’s perfect wedding day.

From Lisa: Sam and I knew we wanted to get married near his family’s cottage in Stockbridge. Sam’s family has been going to the Berkshires over the summer for generations, and I grew up in Massachusetts, so it is a very special place for both our families. Some of our favorites times together when we were dating were visiting his family in the Berkshires-hiking, eating and touring the old mansions in the area. As soon as we toured The Mount we knew it was the right spot for us–we loved the idea of hosting all our family and friends in such a beautiful, grand house that also felt intimate and cozy.

We ended up with perfect sunny weather and beautiful foliage, which is not a guarantee in mid-October in the Berkshires!

Our favorite moments were walking the grounds with Eric while taking pictures, our puppy barking when she saw me coming down the aisle, signing the ketubah with our closest friends and family, seeing our friends and family arrive at The Mount, coming down to join the party after we took a few moments together after the ceremony, and then dancing for hours! Our guests really brought their a-game. Also, finding Sam on the dance floor with an entire pint of ice cream that our caterer had kindly reserved for him.

Austin & RebeccaHancock Shaker Village Wedding Photos

A beautiful summer wedding at Hancock Shaker Village

Rebecca is the events coordinator at Savory Harvest catering. This isn’t the first time we worked together!

From Rebecca:

Austin and I met at work 3 years ago. Austin is a chef and I am the Event Planner for Savory Harvest Catering. I would say it was love at first site for both parties, but it took some push from both sides. I thought Austin was younger than he was and he didn’t think I was available. We started dating about 6 months after meeting and got engaged about 9 months after that. We were engaged about a year and a half before getting married, so we took some time to plan and make sure our day was perfect. You could say it was a whirlwind romance.

We were married at Hancock Shaker Village on September 20th, 2014. It started out to be somewhat of a gloomy day but as soon as we arrived at the village the skies cleared and it turned out to be sunny and warm. We had our first look out in the apple orchards, tucked away from everyone and everything. It was truly wonderful and such a special moment. After taking our first look pictures we joined the rest of the family to take some group shots. We then noticed that Austin’s eye was swelling shut, he had been stung by a bee during our first look and didn’t even realize. It made things interesting for the rest of the pictures until we got his eye to finally go down.

The ceremony was held under two apple trees looking out on the round stone barn, surrounded by our closest friends and families. Austin’s brother married us in a short and sweet ceremony which made things even more special. After the ceremony everyone moved to the cocktail hour which was on the lawn next to the gardens just outside the tent. Savory Harvest Catering provided the wonderful food for the wedding, which happens to be where both Austin and I work.

Once it was time for dinner the guests were welcomed into the tent to find their seats, which were placed underneath cafe type bulb lighting and beautiful vintage umbrellas which were shipped in from Seattle, Washington. Guests were seated and the wedding party was announced into the tent by favorite songs picked by Austin and I. The most magical moment was our first dance. Austin and I danced to our favorite song surrounded by everyone we love. Just perfect.

One of our favorite pictures of the night was a shooting star which was captured by our most favorite photographer, Eric Limon 🙂
