Jacob & SamanthaSummer Wedding in the Berkshires

Summer Wedding in the Berkshires

It was a beautiful Fourth of July day in the Berkshires; an already romantically significant date about to become even more special. Jacob and I met for the first time at a friend’s house on the Fourth of July. We began dating two years later after a week of ice fishing, snowmobiling and snowboarding in the Catskills. From then on, we celebrated every Fourth of July in the Berkshires watching the James Taylor concert at Tanglewood. So, it seemed like fate when Gedney Farm, our dream venue, offered us an opening on the Fourth of July for our wedding day.

Jacob’s family lives in Western Massachusetts, and I grew up about an hour away in a rural part of upstate New York. We wanted the wedding to elegantly represent both of our nature-loving personalities and rustic backgrounds. The barn at Gedney was the perfect place to set the scene. We even included my love for ducks in the decor; the favors (beautiful marble coasters, courtesy of Rebecca Schreiber at Paper Confections Design), table numbers, cake toppers, escort cards, and the guest tree.

The day started out overcast and cloudy, and sure enough, the rain began to fall around mid-morning. What was supposed to be an outdoor ceremony in the knoll behind the barn, became an intimate gathering in the barn’s loft. Everyone’s excitement and happiness was almost palpable, though, and even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits. As it turned out, the skies cleared and the sun came out just before we were about to sign the Ketubah! It was one of those moments that make you believe everything happens for a reason. The loft was the perfect place for the ceremony; not only was it easier for our elderly guests, who watched from below, but being indoors made it easier for everyone to hear as we exchanged our vows. The chuppah we stood beneath was an incredibly meaningful gift built by my sister and brother-in-law out of birch trees given to us by family friends. It was decorated with the memorabilia of our deceased loved ones, who we wished could have been there to share in our special day. Throughout the ceremony, soft sunlight shone through the windows, adding to the ambiance of the room and creating a truly magical moment.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres on the patio before moving into the barn for a delicious meal prepared by Gedney Farm from locally obtained meats and vegetables. Jacob’s best man (best friend from college) and my matron of honor (older sister) gave hilarious speeches, the latter even bringing in a projector to enlarge photos of Jacob and I that supported her story. Then, with the slide show of photos rolling in the background, the music picked up and the party really started. The DJ’s amazing playlist even encouraged Jacob’s 96 year old grandmother to bust a move out on the dance floor. Guests swarmed the candy bar and filled up thank you bags full of some of our favorite treats. Later in the night, my sister surprised us with battery powered, light-up sunglasses. The props made for some really great photos and were so much fun! As the DJ wrapped up the music, we all devoured a flat bread pizza that was served as a late night snack before winding down and heading for bed.

It was the most AMAZING day! Jacob and I can’t thank Eric enough for beautifully capturing so many special moments, allowing us to relive what was easily the best day of our lives.

James & AmandaWedding at Gedney Farm

James & Amanda’s Gedney Farm Wedding Photos

It was truly a pleasure to capture these wedding photographs on a perfect fall day in the Berkshires as James and Amanda exchanged vows up on the knoll at Gedney Farm under an ancient tree in New Marlborough, MA.

After months of planning, this New Orleans couple arrived early to Gedney Farm and spent the day laughing and getting ready for the guests of their Berkshires destination wedding. The weather and the farm were truly stunning, with fall bringing bright yellows and reds to the leaves on the trees around the estate.

When guests began to arrive, they were greeted in the courtyard with cider and yard games before being invited to take a 5-minute walk up the hill to the knoll where the ceremony took place.

Once the guests were at their seats, the Rosamund Trio played as the bridal party gracefully entered the ceremony site. Then, underneath a beautiful, old cherry tree at the top of the hill, James and Amanda exchanged vows in front of their friends and family.

“The ceremony was perfect and I know we will remember it fondly for the rest of our lives,” the bride said of the day’s events. “The chance to share our love and marriage with all those who we love was really like nothing else.”

After the ceremony, guests returned down the hill to the farm for a cocktail hour. The huge stone Argentine grill was fired up and ready to go to serve a fully catered meal courtesy of the folks at Gedney Farm.

Meanwhile, I got to snap a few quick photos of the wedding party at the top of the hill as they shared drinks from the staff. We were even able to get an awesome group shot, according to Amanda, of the whole wedding party before they headed down the hill.

The newlywed couple was announced as they entered the dining area, and they shared their first dance before settling in for a farm-to-table dinner and speeches from James and Amanda’s loved ones.

Dancing started right after dinner, and although the DJ got “a little out of hands at times,” according to the bride, guests could take a break from the dancing to have some fun in the photo booth downstairs.

Once the night wound down, popcorn was handed out and guests made their way home, rounding out a perfect wedding affair with some light snacks and jovial conversation.

Darren & StacieStunning Summer Wedding at Gedney Farm

Stacie & Darren’s Wedding at Gedney Farm

Stacie & Darren had a stunning summer wedding at Gedney Farm. On Saturday, there was the threat of rain all day long, but we totally lucked out and they were able to spend the day outside enjoying the stunning views surrounding Gedney Farm. Darren and Stacie work for a catering company in New Hampshire and are busy doing other people’s weddings most of the time. They met in culinary school in Denver, Colorado, and have moved together to a lot of different places around the country to cook in restaurants.

Here is what Stacie had to say about her amazing wedding day:

We had a truly unforgettable wedding weekend! We loved Gedney Farm from the moment we set foot on the grounds. It’s natural and beautiful with so much character on it’s own and a ton of interesting spaces to hang out in. Darren and I are chefs and when we saw the newly done patio and open fire grill, we looked at each other with the same thought: Pig roast? Chef Rob delivered with a local farm-raised pig that he started smoking early Friday morning for our rehearsal dinner pig roast. Friends and family gathered to enjoy the feast and kick off the weekend.

Saturday threatened with rain but we decided to just go for it, and it ended up being a beautiful day for our ceremony under the cherry tree on the knoll. The guys hung out and played lawn games while the girls got ready. Darren’s a pretty traditional guy and we decided against first looks, and I’ll never forget that feeling of first seeing each other as I walked to him under the tree. We had such a blast taking photos too after the ceremony. Eric kept us laughing and relaxed and totally just enjoying the moment.

The night unfolded perfectly and everyone had so much fun. Instead of a photo booth we set up an area with a polaroid camera and guest book for guests to snap pictures and put them into the book with a message. Dinner was fantastic, and we made sure to sit and enjoy it together. We had a pie bar for dessert, and my grandmother made us a special pie with rhubarb from my mom’s garden to cut for the ceremony. Dave had everyone on the dance floor all night long; I had friends trying to pool money together at the end of the night to get him to stay longer.

It was so special to have our friends and family from all over the country come and celebrate with us, and we are so grateful to the all-star team who made it happen, especially Eric for these amazing photos that we’ll cherish for years to come. Thank you all!
